Purpose: Develop and
implement a cohesive, on-going program of education for staff and users
in the care and handling of books and media material. Coordinate
with public and technical service sections outreach efforts regarding
conservation and preservation issues, education and programs.
Survey and evaluate conditions in the library and to recommend
plans and projects to the AUL-Planning and Technology to ensure
the effective conservation and preservation of library materials.
Membership: The Conservation
Core group is comprised of the Preservation Officer; Unit Head, Preservation;
Stacks Unit Head, McHenry; Stacks Unit Head, Science and Engineering
Library. Library Staff may join on a project or ad hoc committee basis
as determined by the Core Group. Purpose: Foster the
committee's ability to deal with issues in the environment of trust
and creativity, using techniques such as annual committee retreat with
a facilitator. Provide library employees with ongoing opportunities
for increased self awareness of their own values, beliefs, perceptions
and behaviors relative to diversity to provide opportunities for understanding
and appreciating the value which diversity brings to the work place
and campus community. Plan and present activities and programs
designed to enhance individual's abilities to interact and communicate
effectively within a diverse environment. Serve as a conduit of
information about cultural diversity topics. Eligibility: Open to
any staff member or librarian, striving for representation from each
section.
Purpose: Plan
and coordinate the development of the library's programs for public
access to information in electronic form. Develop and administer
the budget for acquiring and providing public access to electronic resources,
including the equipment to support them and associated services, subject
to the general approval of the AUL-Planning and Technology.
Track and investigate developments in this area and inform library
staff and administration. Serve as the primary administrative
and staff advisory body in this area. Serve as the primary
forum for communication, discussion, and resolution of issues and information regarding
campus and University offices, vendors and related groups in this area.
Prepare and present formal recommendations for automated systems.
Subgroup of EIRST,
appointed by EIRST, and charged with advising EIRST on issues
surrounding the design, content, and style of the library's web pages.
Purpose: To coordinate
development and maintenance of the Library's Web sites. Research and
recommend overall policies, procedures, standards and guidelines
related to creation, coordination, and maintenance of Library
pages. This is a standing work group of the Electronic Information Resources
Services Team (EIRST). It reports to the Chair of EIRST. Membership: EIRST Eligibility:
Career staff with direct responsibility for the relevant operational
areas and a representative from each of the sections. Charge: The Library
Exhibit Coordinator advises the University Librarian on library exhibit
policies, and recommends what exhibits shall be displayed, and requests
funding for exhibit activity in light of available resources and Library
goals. The Coordinator encourages the creation of exhibits, and
coordinates library exhibits by maintaining a master exhibit calendar.
The Coordinator may call for interested library staff to help plan and
install exhibits or advise and assist exhibitors in the preparation
and installation of exhibits. The Coordinator sends publicity
information concerning library exhibits to campus Public Information
and to the library office for distribution to the Friends of the UCSC
Library. Membership: The Library
Exhibit Coordinator and Library Development Officer are core group members.
Interested library staff will be sought on a volunteer basis as needed
to assist with exhibit administration and installation and will negotiate
with their supervisor appropriate release time to perform exhibit duties.
Purpose: Work with
the Library Personnel Analyst to lay the foundation for, and to maintain
understanding of, equal employment opportunities and fair hiring needs,
obligations and procedures in the recruitment of library staff positions.
Eligibility: One member
representing those staff titles not in the Library Assistant series;
and at least four members that are Library Assistant III title or above.
Purpose: Appointed
members review career and casual Library Assistant I-V in the library
which are proposed for classification/reclassification. Ensure
equity of staff personnel classifications within the library.
The committee is advisory to Library Administration and makes recommendations
to the University Librarian who has decision making authority for position
reviews. Make recommendations to the Assistant University Librarian-Human
Resources to improve the methods and procedures of reviewing or processing
reclassification requests. May propose to the AUL-HR a review
of specific jobs and/or job groups. Eligibility: Career
employees in the library assistant and clerical/administrative series
who wish to volunteer and are released approximately 5% time by their
section head for a three year or more period. Committee members will
include committee responsibilities in their job descriptions during
the length of their appointment and will be reviewed on their effective
participation. Committee make-up strives to represent major areas
of the library and includes representatives from the clerical/administrative
and library assistant series, as well as librarian supervisors or managers.
Purpose: To assist
the University Library in managing and operating the library’s
local library system (CRUZCAT). This is an advisory group which reports
to the AUL-Planning and Technology. The Committee is to assist
the System Manager in the management and operation of the local library
system. To serve as the primary forum for communication, discussion,
and resolution of issues and information regarding the local library
system. To recommend enhancements and improvements to the local library
system. To make budgetary recommendations regarding the local system,
subject to the approval of the AUL-Planning and Technology. To serve
as the implementation group in introducing new features and functions
on the local library system. To help communicate to the library staff
regarding developments and information regarding the local library system.
To help organize and provide training regarding the use and access to
the local library system. To assist in coordinating publicity regarding
the local library system. Eligibility: Members
will include staff with direct responsibility for managing and operating
the local library system, a member from EIRST, and representatives from
sections as appropriate. The System Manager and System Operator serve
