2007 Student Employee Award and Recognition Program (SERAP) Guidelines

Purpose

The purpose of the Student Employee Award and Recognition Program (SERAP) is to:

  1. Officially recognize our student employees who demonstrate exceptional and/or outstanding performance, service, or contributions.
  2. Provide student employees with a $150 cash award for their outstanding achievements.
  3. Acknowledge our appreciation of all student employees as an important human resource of the Library and UCSC.
Eligibility Requirements Timing

Completed nomination forms can be submitted to the Library Office by student supervisors beginning Friday, March 16, 2007 and no later than Monday, March 26, 2007 at 5:00 p.m.. Supervisors will be notified of final award decisions in April. The SERAP Award Ceremony will occur on Friday, May 11, 2007 at the Oakes lower field from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Type of Award

A cash award in the amount of $150 and a certificate of appreciation and acknowledgment by the UCSC Chancellor, and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

Cash Awards

The library is responsible for covering the cost of the $150 cash award for each student who is selected to receive a SERAP award. Cash awards will be released to recipients on July 6, 2007 (at the end of the academic year, as to not affect this year's financial aid). Cash awards represent taxable income. All awards will, therefore, be reduced according to the current income-tax withholding schedule.

Criteria/Overall Performance

The student employee nominated should have substantially exceeded in quality and/or quantity the normal expectations for the position they hold in the Library. The performance of the student will have a standard of exceptional or/an outstanding contribution to the achievement of the unit's goals and objectives.

1. The student employee must be in good academic standing. Campus Career Services will assume responsibility for the verification of academic standing and notify the Libray Office. The student employee must be currently employed to receive an award.

2. Students who have exhibited a high skill-level beyond expectations for their positions. This would apply to any level of student employment, manual labor positions included. Student employee that:

3. Students who have exhibited a willingness and an ability to seek innovative solutions to problems and who participate in streamlining activities relevant to their positions.
