Land Use/ 41st Ave. 38th Ave. and Portola Dr.

Patron was looking for land use on the block that runs between 38th Ave., 41st Ave. and Portola Dr.
The Standard Map Atlas showed property owners.
Portola Dr. was 1st called Division St. ( 1931 Standard Atlas), Capitola Dr. (1934 Standard Atlas), and Portola Dr. (1952 Standard Atlas).
Other sources were the uncataloged Assessor's Maps by township and range, Capitola Street Map ( G4364.C282 P2 1993 .G7), and the Redi Map Atlas in Case H.

Seacliff Beach

Patron is researching the history of the Seacliff Beach area.
This is a good example of how many ways there are to look for a location:
Seacliff Beach: G 4364 S52
Aptos: G 4364 A64
Seacliff Park: G 4363 S5:2 S3
Aptos Rancho: G 4363 S5:2 R26
Santa Cruz County: G4363 S5

The Standard Map Service atlas (county edition) was helpful.

Seacliff State Beach Preliminary General Plan: F868.S3S398 1990
There are 2 copies of the final plan in Cal Docs, we hope to get one for the Map Room. P155 P4 S42g

Assessor's Maps; Main Beach bluffs

Patron asked if we had Assessor's maps of the area near the Dream Inn/West Coast S.C. Hotel next to the Main Beach, from before 1950. He is a local geologist looking for erosion of the bluffs in that area.
We do have (uncataloged) Assessor's maps from the 1930s and 1940s. The only access point is township and range. The area he was seeking is T11S, R2W, section 24.
Other sources we found included:
- the Standard Map Service atlases (in boxes)
- maps of the Westside: G4364 S69:2 W4
- T-sheets 444 and 444a of the old C&GS charts
There was nothing in the Noel Patterson or Hihn archives.
We suggested that the patron contact the Seaside Company, who has excellent archives, as well as the Museum of Art & History library downtown.
